The Penn State Alumni AssociationWhat’s been happening: After I graduated, I got an engineering job at the Hughes Aircraft Company in August 1967 in California. I was in the aerospace part of Hughes for 22 years. Starting in 1975 and for 14 of those years I ran an extremely classified activity which allowed the government to evaluate the ability of new "stealth" aircraft to be truly stealth against Russian systems. After leaving the aerospace part of Hughes, I moved to the Satellite Group of Hughes. In 1996 I was the VP of Engineering in DirecTV International. In 1997 I was the VP of Engineering in DirecTV domestic. I retired on December 1, 1997 when I turned 55. In July of 2002 I was hired by the 7 major Hollywood movie studios. I was the CTO of Digital Cinema Initiatives, LLC. I was in charge of creating the specification for the digital format of movies to be shown in movie theaters to replace a 115 years of using 35mm film. The specification was completed in July 2005. Currently, all the movie theaters in the world are being converted from film to the digital format in my specification. This conversion of movie theaters from film to our digital format will probably be finished around 2015. I am now just a Digital Cinema consultant. |
